Armed robbery. I never thought that those two words would ever effect me personally. Just this week, two armed men entered my dad's work and at gunpoint, demanded all the money from the cash register and from his wallet. They also took all of his personal information that was in his wallet--credit cards, social security number, etc, and about $1,000 in total. My dad is a strong man, but he knew that even he could not stand against the power of a gun.

They ran, and the police have not found them yet. They did a thorough fingerprint search, and are patrolling the surrounding area, checking in with my dad's store every hour. We sent the security videos that recorded the entire event to the police station. There has yet to be an exact response.

One of the men was a regular at the store, so my dad knows him well. The other man was a new face.

I was in school, and my mom left the store to pick up my sister. My dad had been alone when the incident occured.


This has happened once before, when I was a year old. However, that day, I came down with a bad cold and had to stay home instead of going with my parents to work like usual. Again, some men broke and entered, holding my father at gunpoint.


Twice, my mom, my sister and I were fortunate enough to be away from the scene of the crime. Twice, my father's life has been spared. Twice, a guardian angel has been watching over us.

I just want those men to know that they have affected my family at a very fragile time. I know they are most likely not reading this right now, but just know that what you did was wrong. I hold no grudge, but merely hope that you will see your mistakes.

I want to let all those victims of gun violence--or any type of violence--to know that there is someone watching over you, even when things just seem to hit rock bottom. You will find a way.
